On behalf of the ‘one million ad hoc staff’ comprised of NYSC Members, Students & other applicants; i write to say ‘only God can compensate’ our suffering, as Hundred thousands of us traveled to work as electoral officers, aside from the unnecessary hardship, mutilation & rubbishing us to sleep in INEC &polling units on empty classrooms, under serious cold; only to announced the posponement few Hours to the election.
-We remembered how the Senate approved N242 billion (N242,245,050,100) just for these 2 elections. We were maltreated right from the application, verification and to the most cumbersome training ever, with no training allowances, transport & logistics. Thousands of corp members, close to Million Youths and Students slept either at INEC or in the 119,973 polling units all across Nigeria.
-I recieved hundreds of calls. I swear to God, many of these youth/Students have no transport to come out of the villages &return back to their destination. Why didn’t you forensically analysed all the possible, feasible and probable strenghts and constrains before now; you allowed our ‘poor Nigerians’ to commit our enormous resources in transporting to deploy ourselves to the field??.
-It is normal to re-schedule plans, but very abnormal to allow ‘poor Nigerian Youths’ suffers unnecessarily, especially at this Harmatan period coupled with the tight economic and financial hardship. We are confident that non of the President’s, VP’s, Governors’, Senators’ or Reps’ Children are participating as ‘Inec Ad hoc staff’ being it a patriotic, Civil & Civic National sacrifice.
-We would like to reiterate that we are fully committed to making profound sacrifices for the interest of Nigeria and in the cause of solidifying democracy, not for electing politicians who doesn’t allow their children to participate in National assigment, simply because they see it as ‘Hardship & Poor Men Job’. We are so disappointed and we will expressly & vexaciously express that INEC under you is not much different from Maurice Iwu, hoping that you will finally make us proud.
-Finally, we demand that our training allowance be released immediately, our wasted transport to the various INEC offices be compensated before the re-scheduled date, we demand public apology through Print Media, Radio and TV Stations, hoping that this unfortunate ‘Re-schedule decision’ was taken in the interest of ensuring a more free, fair, transparent & credible elections. Please accept this as a Communique from the ‘one million ad hoc staff’. Thank You.
